Montauk Sport Fishing

What really puts Montauk on the map is its saltwater fishing. Located about 125 miles east of New York City, Montauk is New York State’s largest commercial fishing port. This humble hamlet is known as one of the sport fishing capitals of the world and home to over 25 current world records. The waters of Long Island Sound flow into the Atlantic Ocean at Montauk and bring in abundant amounts of bait and nutrients that attract great schools of bluefish, striped bass and fluke. Montauk is the closest port to the canyons and the Gulf Stream where schools of tuna, shark, mahi-mahi and marlin abound. While inshore, recreational anglers can fish for striped bass, fluke, porgies, blues, blackfish and sea bass to their hearts’ content. Other targeted fish include codfish and offshore anglers can get the occasional “Wahoo!” and even swordfish in certain months.

Montauk Harbor has a great fleet of commercial fishing, Montauk sportfishing charter and party boats that leave port on daily fishing trips.
